As part of the Greater Everglades Ecosystem, Fakahatchee Strand strikes the perfect balance between natural resource preservation and unmatched visitor experience opportunities. Fakahatchee Strand Preserve State Park is the largest state park in Florida. If your goal is to experience sub-tropical paradise far from the reaches of modern civilization, then Fakahatchee is the place for you. Bring drinking water and bug repellant.
The Big Cypress Bend Boardwalk parking area, and pavilion (located directly off U.S 41) offers a comfortable and scenic entrance to the preserve. This is a great stop for those that may be new to the everglades’ natural communities.
Traveling down the park’s main road, Jane’s Scenic Drive, you’ll find yourself amidst some of the wildest land in Florida. There are wildlife species here that can only be found in the Fakahatchee Strand. Come explore! And let us know what you see!

You can also take your park experience to the next level with the Friends of Fakahatchee, a dedicated group of volunteers who serve as the park’s nonprofit citizen support organization (CSO). The group assists the park with programs, special events and fundraising. They are an extremely important part of the park, and we would love to have new members who share the same passion and love for Fakahatchee!
